I can honestly say I've never heard this term before (crunchy, yes. granola, yes. earth-crunchy, no.) and I've been an out lesbian for over ten years. I'd love to know where you all heard this...maybe it's a regional thing. Also, Shane? Crunchy? Hmmm...not so sure.

I agree with you on Shane... I saw that character as more gender-queer / non-gendered...

as for the term, well our culture is all made up fantasy any way :)

Ha, yeah, Shane is definitely not the "crunchy" type... still nice to look at, though. :)

Oh my... I never heard this term ( not really liking the term either ;p ), but it looks like I fall under the stereotype lol. Other than the religious part anyway ;p

earth crunchy sounds very cute

True, on Shane I just wanted to feature a cute lesbian chick, but maybe Melissa Etheridge would have been a better choice or Ani?

Comments and emails taken into account, does the new picture do justice to the term?

Hmm. I've always heard granola dyke. This is a new one. ;)

Yeah, the new pic definitely fits the term better. Shane was cute though...

I fit the crunchy stereotype too, except when it comes to religion: I'm a vegetarian, a feminist, a Women's Studies major, and an activist. I guess that makes me an earth-crunchy byke. :)

My friend KiKi called them "EarthMama Butch" I might fit, if I was vegan, but I'd eat a whole pig in a single sitting if it was roasted with pineapple :-D
